This proposal is for a new Helsinki Design Museum dedicated to building connections between the visitors, the city, and Finnish design. The museum offers a highly curated procession that begins from the top, as visitors make their way down the building while moving through the exhibits and programs. The fluidity of the circulation inside the building plays with the rigidity of the existing grid of city outside and creates a complimentary relationship as the spaces are woven into the gridded structure.

[CONCEPT COLLAGE 01]  this explored ideas of the porosity/density of a built space as one moves up/down in context to the existing cityscape

[CONCEPT COLLAGE 02]  ideas of how visitors might move through the exhibits and how this might change the perspective + experience of the displays

form is shaped by the movement // circulation // trajectory
the galleries and programs in this building are designed around the shape of the visitors' movement to further curate the procession through the museum. the sketches above show how the concept of form following movement is then shaped into the conventional  dimensions of the museum lot.
